Start with the front of the church (be prepared to use a software program to remove the power lines
 
Soapstone Church got its name from the big soapstone rock besides the church.
 
When photographing the rock, try to get Table Rock Mt in the background
 
The old slave cemetery is about 100 yards to the left of the church off of Flyroot trail.


Driving Tips and Other Information

The church is just off SC Hwy 288 about a mile from the Pumpkintown Restaurant.
 
This church is known as the oldest African-American church in the upstate of South Carolina.  The church was built in the late 1860's just after the Civil War..
 
A school for children of the former slaves was built on church grounds.
 
No bathroom facilities available (unless the church is open)
